Sam's Hat

Sam's hat is symbolic of her personality - her lease on life, her openness, and her ability to deal with life's unexpected turns. Sam is forced to wear the hat so that her company will keep insurance on her. Since she has epilepsy, her company feels that she must take the proper precaution of wearing a "helmet" to keep her safe.

By wearing the hat, Sam meets all the requirements put on her by the insurance and her company, but she also distinguishes herself from everyone else. Sam has a level of self-confidence that allows her to feel okay about herself even when she has to do something odd like wearing the hat.
