Context
From Here to Eternity chronicles the easy life in Hawaii in the months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. When Prew arrives at the base, his biggest worry is being forced to box; he quit a year earlier because he accidentally caused a friend to go blind. For his resistance, he is relegated to kitchen duty.
Prew and his best friend, Angelo, go into the city one night, and Prew meets Lorene, whose real name is Alma. The two begin a relationship when he can get some leave from the base. One night, Angelo skips guard duty and is put in the stockade, where the head officer hates him.
Angelo escapes, but he is mortally wounded. He finds Prew, and Prew holds him in his arms as Angelo dies. Then Prew finds the stockade sergeant in the city and murders him. Since he can't go back to the base, he...
