Summary: Hamlet is a tragic play that is written by William Shakespeare. It takes place in Elsinore Castle, Denmark and the time period of this play is pre-1500. Hamlet's soliloquies effectively reveal the real character of Hamlet and develop the theme of revenge, mortality and corruption.
Hamlet is a tragic play that is written by William Shakespeare. It takes place in Elsinore Castle, Denmark and the time period of this play is pre-1500. This play is about Hamlet, who plays the main character. Hamlet wants revenge towards Claudius (his uncle) who married his mother (Gertrude), after his father's death, the former king of Denmark. Hamlet introduces six different soliloquies throughout this play. A soliloquy is a dramatic speech of a character in a play, expressing his emotional feelings towards his or her point of view to an incident. There are three main soliloquies by Hamlet that truly reveal his real character. The first soliloquy is in Act 1, scene 2,(129-159) " O, that this too too solid flesh would melt."..this shows the attitude towards Claudius and his feelings within himself.
