Art Is a Lie Which Leads to the Truth
Art is a result of human creativity and imagination. It involves the use of illusion to reveal to an audience an internal meaning or truth about the subject matter. Paintings, sculpture, drawings, architecture are all examples of art forms. The well-known quote by Picasso, "art is a lie which leads to the truth", refers to all art forms that contain a hidden truth. In some circumstances, a lie can enlighten a reality that would otherwise be invisible to the human eye. It can be an exaggeration of the artist's viewpoint, or reveal the inner message of the artwork. In circumstances where the lie accomplishes its purpose, it can accentuate the truth by toying with our emotions, and opening our mind to ideas and thoughts, which we would usually evade.
