Struggles with Intimate Relationships in "Minimum of Two"

Summary: Continual struggle in maintaining intimate relationships due to a lack of communication or an unawareness of the importance of openness is a key theme in the short story collection "Minimum of Two" by Tim Winton.
In this collection of short stories, `Minimum of Two', written by Tim Winton, most of the characters struggle with aspects of their lives, especially when it's in regard of close interactions with others. For Winton, an enormous proportion of life comes down to intimate relationships. Although he occasionally visits the tragic or at least high drama end of the spectrum, more often than not it's the `kitchen sink' drama that he depicts: men and women, parents and children, in the throes of trying to get on with one another and life's challenges. A few, although not all, manage to achieve some sort of personal wholeness and unity in order to connect, and maintain the connections, to the other characters.
