In Support of the Death Penalty

Summary:   Many disagreements and arguments exist regarding the legitimacy of the death penalty. However, it is not only an acceptable form of punishment, but it is the most humane way to remove a societal danger from the world and to deter others from making the same choices. The death penalty is an essential part of the punishment system that the government has created.

Introduction-Since Eighteenth Century B.C. the Death Penalty has been used as an acceptable form of punishment to deter heinous criminal acts, and give closure to wounded families.

C. Cruel and Unusual Punishment

II. The Controversy over the Death Penalty

A. Goes against Pro-Life consistency.

B. Doesn't deter criminal acts of violence.

III. Reasons to keep the Death Penalty

A. Some criminals have no remorse for their actions, and should not be left to live long lives (Timothy McVeigh).

B. More cost effective than keeping them in jail for life

C. Gives comfort and closure to the families involved

Conclusion-The Death Penalty is an essential part of the punishment system that the government has created.
