Pericles and His Golden Athens

Summary:   Athens rose to greatness during the fifth century B.C, and it is fiercely believed that this ascension to greatness was due, largely in part to the immense efforts and innumerable achievements of one man; Pericles.


Athens rose to greatness during the fifth century B.C, and it is fiercely believed that this ascension to greatness was due, largely in part to the immense efforts and innumerable achievements of one man; Pericles. The culmination of these achievements are thought to have enabled Athens to reach its pinnacle of economic prosperity, cultural diversity and social equality. As a result, Athens was, therefore, able to progress and experience its greatest period in history; "The Golden Age."

Pericles accomplished numerous feats throughout his career, which benefited Athens greatly, however, it is believed that such achievements may not have been attainable if his character, personality and education had been different. Pericles may not have even entered politics if it had not been for his family, which was of a distinguished and prestigious political heritage. His father, Xanthippus was.....
