He is neither a Montague nor a Capulet but his friendship with Romeo apparently puts him in Montague side of the foe. His name which comes from mercurial (changeable)

Truly shows his personality .He shows up with different dispositions in different situations. He quotes interesting stories and interpret incidents in a humorous way, also he is unsentimental character which has a really close friendship with the most emotional character of the story Romeo. Mercutio is an outstanding character in Shakespeare's creations and his "emotional opposition to Romeo", his "funny theme of talking",and his "role in plot of the story "are strong proofs to this statement.
