He is neither a Montague nor a Capulet but his friendship with Romeo apparently puts him in Montague side of the foe. His name which comes from mercurial (changeable)

Truly shows his personality .He shows up with different dispositions in different situations. He quotes interesting stories and interpret incidents in a humorous way, also he is unsentimental character which has a really close friendship with the most emotional character of the story Romeo.
