Summary:   Pericles had a remarkable career which lasted over 30 years. Pericles entered politics in 469 BC when he was 22 years old. During his career he led Athens through many astonishing events, including his building programme and various military expeditions.


Pericles was a renowned and influential statesman, speaker and general of Athens. He was born during 490 BC from the Alcmaeonidae family and died on 429 BC from plague at 61 years of age. His father was Xanthippus who was an Athenian politician. His mother was Agariste who was a descendant of the Alcmaeonidae family. Pericles improved Athens considerably in politics and everyday life and lead Athens during the Athenian Golden Age. Pericles's illustrious career spanned over 30 years.
