It would seem that the three types of biotechnology are in competition with each other. With both white and green biotechnology, preventing foods from being harmful seems almost pointless. In green biotechnology, the plants are genetically altered to grow in a desired and life a long life and not go bad. With white biotechnology, the contamination of food and water is prevented.
Within the last century, the advancement of technology has exploded. Whether it be with necessary medical devices or non-obligatory gadgets, every possible task is becoming seemingly simpler. Among the many emerging fields of technology is biotechnology, or the "technology based on biology; especially when used in agriculture, food science, and medicine" (Wales). Biotechnology is later defined as "the manipulation of organisms to do practical things and to provide useful products"(Wales). With the use of the words "practical" and "useful" in the definition, one can contemplate the usefulness and practicality that result from biotechnology. In order to determine the usefulness and practicality of biotechnology, we first must divide biotechnology into its more known sub-fields: red biotechnology, white or gray biotechnology, and green technology.
