Socrates and Glaucon Reflection
Socrates and Glaucon come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as perfection that is of this earth. It may exist elsewhere, however, or may not. I tend to believe that there is no such state as that of perfection. But it is not the existence that matters at all really. Rather, it is in the striving towards that false perfection that leads us on in life. If we didn't struggle to do better, to be kinder, to be stronger, etc., then the human race would falter. The goal of perfection, the piece of meat hanging in front of us that we can never reach no matter how hungry we get or how fast we run, keeps us working. It keeps us continuing on through time rather than ceasing to exist altogether. Religious people will always attempt to carry out acts of kindness in order to reach a state of perfection they call heaven. Scholars will always study and learn as much as possible, but there will always be information that is unknown to us. No matter what category one can make, there is no maximum limit to be reached in this dimension, time, and place. Yet, it is the goal of humanity to continue to work towards this state of perfection. Explaining why is difficult. It may be just for the sake of competition, it may be the hard-wiring of humans to do their best, or some other reason. But whatever way the reason may be, perfection, whether it is real or not, is our reason to keep moving on
