Collectivization under Stalin

Summary:   The failure of collectivization in the Soviet Union during the late 1920s and 1930s was the result of Stalin's dictatorial regime. Collectivization failed to create a strong industrial base for Russia and could not support its people; yet the Soviet Union was at the mercy of Stalin, who held sole responsibility for maintaining this policy and did so through his reign of terror against his own people.


An effective leadership is reliant on the relationship one develops with his followers. This relationship often determines the success of a leader's policies. Stalin was a leader who sought to destroy this correlation. His policy of collectivization was not justifiable from any aspect. He broke the will of his people and seized their culture for a plan that was destined to fail. His reign of terror went unchallenged through his extensive pursuit of an authoritarian regime. Collectivization failed to create a strong industrial base for Russia and could not support its people. The Soviet Union was at the mercy of Stalin who held sole responsibility for maintaining this policy. Thus, the failure of collectivization was the result of Stalin's unopposed leadership.
