Summary: An analysis of the relationships that Pip has with various other characters in the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. The characters included in this analysis include Joe, Provis, and Miss Havisham.
Joe had a major influence on Pip, both good and bad, Joe played an important role in Pip's development through life. Joe was a very honest person. He would tell the truth no matter how much it hurt. When Pip was just a boy, Joe was always there for him. If something happened to Pip then Joe would comfort him. When Pip was young he was often beaten by Mrs. Joe. Joe saw this and felt sorry for Pip so he married Mrs. Joe. He showed so much devotion for a little boy he barely knew. He was even beaten by his wife for Pip. This shows that Joe has unconditional love for Pip. It takes a long time for Pip to realize this. He doesn't notice how good a person Joe is until he is older.
