Summary: Many things will cause schizophrenia; it is a disease which causes many symptoms in the mind. Many believe that an imbalance in brain chemistry is what causes schizophrenia. These symptoms are called brain abnormalities.
Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia means "split mind." Nearly 1 in 100 people develop this disorder. An exact meaning of schizophrenia is "a group of sever disorders characterized by disorganized and delusional thinking, disturbed perceptions, and inappropriate emotions and actions." Disorganized thinking is associated with delusions. The thinking in a persons mind is all over the place and is "distorted by false belief." This is what a delusion is. A schizophrenic person may also see things that aren't really there, hallucinations. The emotions of someone with this disorder are usually "split from reality." Many things will cause schizophrenia; it is a disease which causes many symptoms in the mind. Many believe that an imbalance in brain chemistry is what causes schizophrenia. These symptoms are called brain abnormalities.
