The Life of Novelist Lois Lowry

Summary:   A short biography of novelist Lois Lowry, who's best known for her first book, "A Summer to Die," and the trilogy of "The Giver," "Gathering Blue," and "The Messenger."


Lois Lowry's life is a complicated and tragic one. She was born March 20, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She traveled all over the world, because her dad was an Army dentist. There were many ideas that inspired her writings in the period of traveling and her career period.

She attended Brown University in 1954 and married a naval officer to continue the moving around the world. She left the University and went on with her life. She moved to many places such as California, Connecticut, Florida, and South Carolina. She finally settled in Maine where she returned to at the University of Southern Maine. After she graduated, she finally started her writing career at age forty.

Her first book, A Summer to Die (written in 1997), was inspired by.....
