Summary: St Kevin and the Blackbird, The Blackbird Singing and The Oven Bird share the common theme of birds, and more specifically the species of Blackbirds. Each poem is biographical to the particular writer in certain ways.

For my poetry assignment I have decided to do St Kevin and the Blackbird, The Blackbird Singing and The oven Bird which both share the common theme of birds, and more specifically the species of Blackbirds. Each poem is biographical to the particular writer in certain ways. I will compare and contrast each poem and its relationship with the other poems. Heaney's St Kevin and the Blackbird illustrates part of his own culture, the blackbird is native to Ireland as is St Kevin who relates to old Irish Mythology part of his own religion. R.S Thomas's A Black Bird Singing also features a biographical theme based on the Blackbird which is native to Wales. Robert Frosts Oven Bird relates to a warbler, a bird which is native to New England in the United States where Frost grew up . He uses this a his biographical theme.
