Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, is a 20th century film production, which appeals to a 20th Century American audience. The film text is loosely appropriated on the Grimm brothers' famous fairytale, Cinderella. The general point of both texts is that a woman, no matter how poor, who carries admirable personality qualities, may be rescued from a slovenly position which the good often may find themselves in. Both texts preach the values of kindness, humility, and reflect their socio-cultural timeframes in which they were made. Although the form of the story is carried on in the appropriation, the content, characters, and obviously language are significantly different.
