Throughout time, many people in our society have always tried to mitigate themselves to become better people. There are many prime examples of for knowledge that many in our society abide by to help them reach a higher level of prosperity in life or discover new ideas about themslves that they never knew about. Through the ideas of freedom and education one can lead themselves on a path of self discovery .According to W.E.B. DuBois' The Souls of Black Folk and other Enlightenment thinkers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Paine, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson this idea helps society overcome the barriers needed to prosper.

With freedom, anyone has the ability to do whatever one desires, the government and society shunned away the idea of freedom for all citizens as DuBois believes. Others, like Jean-Jacques Rousseau believed that every citizen was free, but faced different problems...
