Reasons for the Greek Victory Over the Persians

Summary:   Many factors contributed to the Greeks' victory over the Persian Empire, despite the Persians' numeric advantages in terms of both their naval fleet and their infantry. The Greeks had shrewd military leadership; superior preparation, equipment, and fighting style; and extensive knowledge of the areas in which they fought. These advantages, coupled with the poor strategic decisions made by the Persians, gave the Greeks the upper hand.


Explain the reasons for the Greek victory and the defeat of the Persians.

There were many different reasons why the Greeks defeated the Persians. The victory of the Greeks was most likely unforseen and unexpected due to the large Persian fleet and infantry that far outnumbered that of the Greeks. Shrewd military leadership on the Greek part and poor strategic decisions made by the Persian leaders of the time greatly contributed to the Greece's victory. The Greeks superior knowledge of the areas they were fighting in meant that they had the upper hand throughout many of the battles. The Persians lack of this knowledge left them extremely disadvantaged and many of their ships were destroyed because of this. The Greek preparation was far superior to that of the Persians and played a vital role in their victory-.....
