George Washington's Importance to the American Revolution

Summary:   It has been said that George Washington was the American colonies' greatest asset during the American Revolution. As Washington's actions at the battle of Trenton reveal, his personal commitment to duty, his leadership qualities, and his determination and courage contributed greatly to the American victory.


George Washington was the commander-in-chief of the Continental army during the Revolutionary War. He was an extraordinary general, but during the first year of the war the patriots suffered many defeats in the hands of the British. Washington's army was forced to cross the Delaware River in the winter of 1776 to avoid the complete annihilation. However, Washington didn't lose faith in the American victory. Washington was responsible for the American victory because of his commitment to duty, leadership qualities, determination, and courage.

In the winter of 1776 Washington's army of less than 2000 men were chased by the British troops ten times his own. The American army was ill-trained, ill-equipped, and running out of supplies. Despite all the difficulties, Washington held the army together. His soldiers still supported him and refused to desert him. Washington's army.....
