In the beginning of the movie, the Muppet man says "Even the vegetables don't like him." Scrooge, who is played by Michael Caine, is an unwanted gloomy man. He is greedy and collects money from even the poor. In the movie, he owns a very expensive hotel and lives on the darkest alley of the city. Will the spirits teach him how to spread joy during Christmas? Or, will Scrooge suffer the atrocious consequences? Henson has well thought out the script, with a few of Charles Dickens quotes as well as a Muppets twist.
Jacob and Robert Marley are one of the most interesting aspects of the movie. Henson managed to make these two "fly", while carrying chains. Some other interesting characters are the ghosts. To make Past translucent must have been no easy task. What was really impressive though was the puff of smoke when Future appeared. Future was a lot taller than Scrooge, and was "scary" in Scrooge's opinion. Present was also quite impressive. He sat on a chair made of fruits; a puppet like that must have been very hard to make.
Who would be better for Mr. and Mrs.Cratchit than Kermit the Frog (Steve Whitemire) and Miss Piggy (Frank Oz)? Kids might become more grateful after seeing Mr.Cratchit and his family who survive with so little. Tiny Tim is another classic example of a cripple who became rejuvenated due to another person's kindness.
Though many quotes from the book are copied, the Muppets Christmas carol is very different from the book. It has new characters and the order of events occurring is often different. This classic will remain in spotlight for years to come. Watch a miser turn into a generous gentleman. It shows friendship and Christmas cheer. Kids will love a movie like this. So, spread a little Christmas spirit with the Muppets Christmas Carol.
