Joan Eardley and David Hockney

Summary: Joan Eardley was born in 1921 and died in 1963. She is probably most famous for her painting of "Street Kids" or "Children and Chalked Wall 3." David Hockney was born in 1937 and is still alive today. During his lifetime, he has completed many beautiful pictures, with some of his best known work being "A Bigger Splash" and "Nichols Canyon."
Joan Eardley was born in 1921 and died in 1963. She is probably most famous for her painting of "Street Kids" or "Children and Chalked Wall 3." In this essay I will be commenting on her style of painting and mainly focusing on her painting "Catterline in Winter" which she painted in 1963 at the age of 42. That same year, she unfortunately died of breast cancer. However, she requested that her ashes be spread across the beach of Catterline.

In the painting, "Catterline in the winter", there is a small row of houses, but the picture is taken up predominantly by the field and sky. The overall tone of the painting is quite bleak and dark. I think that this is probably to show the weather conditions as it is of a situation that is by the sea. Therefore, the weather is likely to be quite cold and windy. The tone also...
