Throughout history, policymakers have had to balance the social good and the rights of individuals to choose freely. States should banish gambling to ensure the social good. They do not need to legalize it to increase revenues because much of it goes to expenses and problems that gambling adds to.
History of Legalized Gambling and the Effects
Is legalized gambling good or bad? It depends on one's viewpoint towards the issue. Those who view it to be bad for the society suggest many reasons why it disrupts and promotes a declination. First the gambling industry targets the poor by advertising people winning big at casinos and other gambling sites. They also believe it produces great hardships for the families caught in the middle of a problem gambler's addiction. Those who suggest that the industry is good for the society say the states should legalize gambling and allow it to be ones right to gamble if they choose. Also they contend that it is a good source of income with good social opportunities. Through out the history of gambling, it has always been filled with controversy.
