Summary:
In "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell, the poet creates a `narrator' who is trying to persuade his mistress to sleep with him, however she does not seem so interested. In `The Beggar Woman' by William King, the poet goes for a
slightly comedic value; however still maintains a strong and relevant moral for the 17th century. This poem is about a man of a fairly good background who goes hunting and meets a prostitute with a baby. Throughout the poem again the man is trying to sleep with the woman. Yet again, the woman is not as sure and keeps making excuses.
Relationships between men and woman in the 21st century are very different to
relationships in the 17th century. Now they are equal. Both men and women can work
when and with any company they chose. Women are now aloud to vote and aloud to
have opinions in many of the everyday things that they were not as privileged to do so
in the 17th century. Woman and men can both compete for the same jobs and woman
have equal chance at getting the more academic and high paying jobs such as doctors
and lawyers. Woman are even equal in the sexual side of the relationship, woman are
considered in the emotional aspects as well as physical. In the 17th century woman
