Of Mice and Men is one of my favorite novels ever written. When I was assigned to read it last year, I didn't really want to. It was my last choice of the three possible, and I couldn't wait to be finished with it. That all changed when I started reading it. I got through about fifteen pages and I was captivated by it. The book drew me in, and about half way through it I couldn't put it down.
One of the reasons why I found this book so endearing was because of the writing style. I was painted a vivid picture, and I was able to see what was happening. It was almost as if I was there. I was able to put my feet in the characters shoes. It seemed like I knew them, and was witnessing everything that was going on. The way the people spoke, in the book, fit perfectly with their personality and how I pictured them to look. These factors made the book more realistic and enhanced my reading experience.
The most important reason why this is one of my favorite novels is because of the outstanding storyline. When I learned what the basis of the book was, I was turned off to it. I didn't think that a book about two country brothers running away and starting a new life could be the least bit interesting. That's where I was mistaken. The storyline, like I said earlier, became so real to me. It was as if I was in the story as a spectator. I was captivated by the plot, and I need to know what was going to happen next. The one part that made this my favorite book was the ending. I was so shocked by the fact that Lennie had to be killed, and by his brother for that matter. It was remarkable, and I couldn't have asked for a better ending.
There are many aspects that make a good book great. Having a great storyline, and capturing the interest of readers are some of them. Of Mice and Men have both of those qualities, and more, and that is why this is my favorite novel.
