Juorney to the Centre of the Earth

Summary:   Professor Lidenbrock and Axel encounter many adventures through their quest to the Center of the earth after reading a runic manuscriptto see if it is true.

Summary

The book, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", is a very interesting book about a boy named Axel Lidenbrock. He had a large collection of stones and rocks and had a great appetite for geological science. He also had a rich, German uncle who is a geologist and naturalist. His name is Professor Otto Lidenbrock. Axel lives with his uncle and his 17 year old god- daughter, Martha, in the second largest city of Germany, which is Hamburg in a little house.

One day Professor Otto Lidenbrock bought an original runic manuscript of an Icelandic saga. When they are reading the manuscript, they find a note with weird symbols written in ancient runic script. The professor spoke 2,000 different languages and 4,000 dialects and still couldn't figure it out until a while later. It turned out to be a note written backwards by Arne Saknussemm, an alchemist from the 16th century. She wrote about how she discovered a passage to the center of the earth.

Professor Otto Lidenbrock decided to go on this amazing expedition to the center of the earth with his nephew, Axel. First, they went to Reykjavik, Iceland. When they reached there, they met a guide named Hans who went with them to the base of the volcano. After going in a crater, the three of them traveled into the bowels of the earth.

Hans, Professor Lidenbrock, and Axel faced some very dangerous things such as a chamber filled with a lot of combustible gas, and steep sided walls around the path. They reach an underground ocean lit by gases on the ceiling and sailed across it. A big lightening storm starts while they are sailing. After that, they find a passageway marked by Saknussemm ahead of them, but when they try to go through, it turns out to be blocked by a huge rock fall. They figure out that they wouldn't be able to push the rocks out the way. So they set dynamite by the rocks and explode them away.

The explosion turns out to be a little bit too large and so the three of them are blown away a very far distance. Eventually they end up in the water gap and are rushed in an erupting volcano on their raft. The magma flies out of the volcano and Hans, Axel, and Professor Lidenbrock fly out with it. They end up at the surface of the earth in Stromboli.
