Child Labor in China

Summary: Child labor is becoming increasingly common in China, making up about 20 percent of that nation's work force. Industries in which children work range from fireworks and toys, to garment and textiles, and even to prostitution, pornography, and the military. Because child labor will adversely affect the world in the future, stronger child labor laws and other measures are necessary.
Child labor in China is the topic I choose to write about as my world studies project. "Child labor is the employment of children as wage owners." The children's ages normally range from five to fifteen years, most are hidden from society. Child labor is rapidly increasing and is a huge problem. There is no actual numbers showing how many children are working. But although there is no exact numbers it is estimated that child labor makes up about 20% of the work force in China.

The companies prefer children because they work for very low wages, are easily intimidated and are able to fit in small work spaces. Although, The Compulsory Education Law of the Chinese constitution says" that all of the children under the age of sixteen must go to school and are not allowed to hold full-time jobs", this is not true for many children.
