The Cambodian genocide is an example of why it is important to remember history and learn from the lessons of the past. The Holocaust and the Cambodian genocide have similarities and differences. I believe that comparing and contrasting the two genocides can provide and important lesson.
The perpetrator of the Cambodian massacre was Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge. The victims of his oppression were the peasants, Muslims, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Cham Muslims. The total number of deaths was approximately 2,000,000.
The difference between the Cambodian massacre and the Holocaust was that Hitler's campaign was based on religion and race, whereas Pol Pot based his actions on ethnicity and Communism. The other difference was in their form of government; Hitler was a fascist, and Pol Pot was a Communist. However, both dictators claimed.....
