Summary: Solomon Northup's views on slavery as he lived it for 12 years in 'Twelve Years A Slave'.
The book "Twelve Years A Slave" is one mans account of his kidnapping

and being sold into slavery. Solomon Northrup was a free man born July of 1808

in the north this is stated on page18. His ancestors and parents were slaves in

Rhode Island and had belonged to a family by the name of Northup. They moved

to New York and bought his father with him. Upon his owners death Solomon's

father became free having been emancipated by direction in his will. His father

knew agricilture or farming. Solomon married and had 3 children. In 1834 they

moved toSaratoga Springs. His wife worked as a cook.

Mr. Northup in 1841 was met by two gentlemen who talked about his

being an expert vilonist and got him to work for them. They were with a circus

company while attempting to rejoin it they were doing exhibition along the way.
