Magic is one of the central elements in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In this play, the use and misuse of magic brings about the most peculiar and comical situations. The main conflicts in A Midsummer Night's Dream develop when magic meets reason. Although the magical force is invisible to the characters, it controls their thoughts and actions throughout much of the play. Magic also creates a surreal world for the four young Athenians in A Midsummer Night's Dream. It has the power to confuse and bewilder the characters.
