Summary: This essay describes the addition of predjudicial feelings by using the movie "Remember the Titans" as an example.
In the movie, `Remember the Titans', a story unfolds about the complete cycle of prejudice including the application of super-ordinate goals to reverse it and create a dominant football team. In case you haven't seen the movie, a black football coach takes over as head coach of an interracial football team previously led by a white man, in a southern town where segregation is the culture. What's interesting about the movie is how it depicts prejudice as the root cause of mediocre performance when students perceive themselves as being judged in terms of a stereotype. The team initially plays poorly because students do not trust one another, block for one another and play as a team. The remainder of the movie demonstrates what we know about how prejudice develops and the process for reversing it.
