Summary: In studying mental processes and behaviors, psychologists have pondered questions such as how thought processes can be analyzed, the role of genetics and society in our personalities, and whether our biological impulses and psychological structure is preprogrammed. The work of two psychologists, Sigmund Freud and Karen Horney offer many different views and opinions about psychology and how the mind works.
Psychology can be defined as "the science that deals with mental processes and behaviors." There is so much complexity underlying this seemingly simple definition. How exactly could all of the thought processes of every individual be analyzed and put into basic terms? What role do genetics and society play in our personality? Are we molded by who raised us or can we decide for ourselves at any stage in our lives? Are our biological impulses and psychological structure of life preprogrammed? There have been great psychologists of the past that pondered these same questions and it will be their reasoning and theories that I will critique and rewrite through this essay.
