Comparing Word and Sentence Length of Two Types of Newspapers

Summary:   A mathematical investigation was conducted to determine the word lengths of articles in a tabloid and in a broadsheet newspaper. Using articles in The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail and collecting results in a stem and leaf diagram, the investigation tests the hypothesis that articles in the broadsheet will generally have longer sentences than articles in the tabloid, and that this is caused by greater amounts of detail and factual evidence in the broadsheet articles.

I am going to investigate sentence lengths of the same story in a broadsheet and a tabloid newspaper (The Daily Telegraph & The Daily Mail). I will not count numbers. I will collect my results in a stem and leaf diagram as this will make my results clear and well presented. I will then collect other peoples results in order to get a wider variety of results. I will collect 3 other peoples. I will then make a conclusion on what I have found out. I will ensure this will be a fair test by using two articles that are the same, not counting numbers in both articles and count the same amount of sentences in each article.
