Plot Summary of "Things Fall Apart"

Summary:   A plot review of "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. The novel is the story of the rise and fall of Okonkwo, and it tells the story of what happens to a society and culture when colonization by a more-powerful culture takes place. This essay is a general plot analysis of Okonkwo and the life surrounding him,and his village.


Things Fall Apart by Achebe is the story of the rise and downfall of a man named Okonkwo and his village. Okonkwo is a man of great strength and prominence in his village of Umofia. He gained most of his fame by winning a wrestling match against a man thought to be unbeatable, Amaline the cat. Okonkwo is a very hard working man and thought that everyone should be the same way. Okonkwo was a man of the village who earned everything on his own and got no help from his father, Unoka, who was a lazy man in great debt, and cared about nothing except for playing the flute. Unoka died in shame and his debts were never paid, but they were never left for Okonkwo because the villagers thought of him in high.....
