Odysseus, an Epic Hero

Summary: Explores the character of Odysseus, from The Odyssey by Homer. Examines his merits as epic hero. Describes the rewards and costs of being a literary epic hero.

Through out the Odyssey we read about many epic hero's, their deeds and there rewards. However there are always personal costs, weather they are small costs or big personal costs, the epic hero also needs to learn to live with them. The personal cost could be caused by a kind of karma handed out by the gods. As in the Odyssey the epic hero's had just participated in the Trojan War, where they killed many people during the war and the sacking of Troy, but also the god were dived on the issue, so the gods who sided with the Trojans would not be happy and would be even more angry if they were not appeased
