Modern and Historical Pirates

Summary:   Examines the history of piracy. Compares historical pirates to modern day criminals.

Today most people enjoy hearing about the myths of pirates and how they existedin the 1500's. Most people don't realize that they exist today; they believe that they werejust a myth in stories and legends. Pirates exist now and more than ever. Although thereare many types of pirates, the kind that people think of the most were, pirates, privateers, buccaneers, and corsairs.

Pirates existed back more than 3000 years ago. True pirates stole from anyone; they couldn't resist the temptation to steal from the ships filled with gold, tobacco, silks and spices. Although stories and myths make a pirates life sound rich and glamorous, their lives weren't as cracked up to what they sound. They often were starving and died of disease. Besides pirates, there were privateers. Privateers were hired by other countries or the government to steal, or burn down enemy's ships. Buccaneers were a group of slaves, criminals, and refugees living in the Caribbean, and they also enjoyed attacking ships. Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard was one of the most dreaded Buccaneers.

Thieves, crooks, robbers, criminals, in this world today, all are incorporated with, stealing, misdemeanor, court, weapons, and felony. The reason is because they all do all of those things. Today, thieves steal, robbers are brought to court, and criminals use weapons. There is a bit of similarity between pirates and criminals, or, pirates today.

That is why pirates exist today, they are just the same accept most people don't use boats and swab the decks. Pirates stole, and criminals today steal. Although most criminals today don't usually get away with their crimes, there is still a big similarity between the two. Pirates enjoyed stealing money, or any thing they could exchange for it. Pirates in modern times enjoy stealing the exact same thing, diamonds, gold, and money. Pirates in the 1500's enjoyed stealing boats as a way of transportation on the high sea, meanwhile, modern pirates enjoy stealing cars, motorcycles, and even planes. Pirates existed in the 1500's and today, 2004 now more than ever.
