. Go Ask Alice is an anonymously written book about a teenage girl mixed in the 1960's drug culture. Alice begins her diary because she has no one to talk to, she is a poetic writer and puts everything about her un happy view of the world in it. The dairy is her best friend, Alice feels the only the dairy knows who she is and how she really feels.

A major theme in the book is that drugs blur the line between fantasy and reality and aren't a way to connect with people.

Alice is a fifteen year old middle class teenager in the sixties. She gets good grades and is involved in her school. She fits in to the stereotypical teenage type.
