The American Dream

Summary: There are ideals, but also significant issues surrounding the American Dream. These issues are examined and lamented in the song Piano Man by Billy Joel.
The whole idea of this song is to show how most people never have everything that they want, there is always something missing no matter what and a good way to forget about these problems is by listening to music. In the fifth stanza, the speaker explains that there's some place that John would rather be, which means that he has a dream and in the sixth stanza John expresses his feelings by stating his dream and why he can't achieve it, which is most probably because he can't afford to support his dream. In the eight stanza, two people who are both missing something in their lives are sharing a conversation. Paul's job has gotten in the way of his personal life, which he doesn't have, and Davy, well he's missing out on a lot of things because his life is dedicated to the Navy. These people...
