Summary: Contrasts the polictical and economic policies of Joseph Stalin in the period before World War Two and those of reformist Mikhail Gorbachev. Explains Stalins Five Year Plan. Describes how each man greatly influenced the direction of the former Soviet Union, for good and bad.
Joseph Stalin and Mikhail Gorbachev were both very brilliant and strong rulers of the Soviet Union. However the way they ruled were both very alike and very different. Stalin ruled for a period of time before the Second World War and Gorbachev ruled between 1985 and 1991.

Joseph Stalin's political and economic policy plan was called the 5 year's plan! The 5 Year Plan was a comprehensive, centrally controlled plan for industrial expansion. Politically, the Soviet Union according to Stalin was, "fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries." And the problem that was occurring was the "cursed problem", or the problem of the peasants. He used collectivization which is the forcible consolidation of individual peasant farms into large, state controlled enterprises. And by 1929 peasants from the Soviet Union were forced to not only give up their land and animals, but to become members of collective farms, however the continued to...
