Playing Basketball on the Moon

Summary:   An interesting physics question: Could basketball be played on the moon? The answer is yes, but there would be significant difficulties to overcome, such as the moon's temperature extremes, low gravity fields and a weak atmospheric field.


Basketball, fast-paced game played on a rectangular court, generally indoors, by two five-player teams. Now picture this game being played on the moon. Seems nearly impossible, but it can be done. Though it can be done, there are always going to be some obstacles to go around. The moon's conditions can become a big problem when trying to execute a plan for playing basketball on the moon. Things such as the extreme temperature, reduction of gravity, the lack of both atmosphere and magnetic field, and the energy can all affect the way basketball is played on the moon.

First, gravity would be one of the biggest problems. I am sure that gravity would be the first thing on a persons mind when thinking of playing basketball on the moon. The gravity on the earth and the gravity.....
