Comparing The Good Earth and Great Expectations

Summary: Both Charles Dickens' Great Expectations and Pearl S. Buck's The Good Earth feature characters from small poor families who become different people once their financial situation improves. Both Pip and Wang Lung allowed money to get the best of them and to turn them away from their families, and both eventually came to realize what was truly important in life.
Great Expectations is written by Charles Dickens, which takes place in London, England and The Good Earth is written by Pearl S. Buck which, takes place in a small town in China. The two characters Pip Pirrip and Wang Lung both come from small poor families. Pip's parents died while he was very young and lives with his sister and her husband Joe in a small house. Wang Lung, a farmer who married a woman by the name of O-lan has a very happy and loving life. Therefore, both Wang Lung and Pip had strong family ties until their values and morals became corrupt by money. Eventually, both characters realized what was important in life and regretted their actions.

Pip's humble life is very similar to that of the farmer Wang Lung's life. For example, Pip's relationship with Joe is a very tight and close relationship. Both Joe...
