Civil War

Summary:   Discusses causes of the American Civil War. Maintains that the main cause was geographical issues rather than abolitionist views. Describes how the Industrial Revolution affected development in the Northern and Southern portions of the country very differently.


The Civil War was caused by sectional issues and differences rather than by the influence of Northern abolitionists. The extent at which the Civil War was caused by sectional issues and differences was great although the extent by the influence of Northern abolitionism was less. The sectional issues and differences between the states started before the Mexican-American war was over. The Northern and Southern states could not decided whether or not newly acquired territory would be admitted to the union as free or slave territory. They also couldn't agree about the Tariff of Abominations the North was not affected by the tariff that much and the South was affected greatly by it and they could not agree on it. Abolitionism played a small role because of the strong anti-slavery groups. These differences would be causes of.....
