Summary: In the novel, " The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there are four major characters. The four characters are Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Pryne, Roger Chillingworth, and Pearl. These characters work hard to stand up for their rights and depend on each other for support.

In the novel, " The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there are four major characters. The four characters are Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Pryne, Roger Chillingworth, and Pearl. These characters work hard to stand up for their rights and depend on each other for support.

Hester Pryne is a strong young woman who does not care about what others have to say. She is the basis of the novel. I feel that Hester can be independent at times but still needs someone there by her side to carry her through. Even though Hester had an affair with Dimmesdale, she needs to learn that if she wants to be mature and continue what she is doing, then she had to accept the consequences, (Pearl), and not feel alienated.
