Summary: 'Shrek' is not a traditional fairytale. The prince is the small mean beast and Shrek is the handsome heroic prince. Throughout the film there are lots of references to other traditional fairytales such as 'Pinocchio', 'Three little pigs', 'Cinderella' ect. The makers of 'shrek' reveal Shrek as good and Lord Farquaad as evil.
Most fairytales contain a hansome heroic prince, a beautiful princess starnded in a high castle waiting for her true love and a huge, mean, blood thirsty beast. However 'Shrek' is not a traditional fairytale. The prince is the small mean beast and Shrek is the handsome heroic prince. Throughout the film there are lots of references to other traditional fairytales such as 'Pinocchio', 'Three little pigs', 'Cinderella' ect. In this essay i am going to show how the makers of 'shrek' reveal Shrek as good and Lord Farquaad as evil.

At the begining of the film Shrek comes across as a stereotypical ogre. We see this when shrek is reading the fairytale book.
