Christopher Columbus, hero or villain"

The question asked by many people is whether or not Columbus deserves his own holiday. He is the only man in our nation and history with his own holiday celebrated in every state. What people of America do not realize is that Columbus was a murder. He took the land on which the Native American's rightfully owned. So if our nation wants to celebrate a man who started America on the path of murder and greed then by all means should we celebrate it.

When Columbus first stepped onto the America's he was struck by the people's hospitality. Taking the natives for granted he told them that he must find gold and they gladly gave it to him. The act of the natives was so pure and untainted that one would wonder what went wrong with Christopher and his men to make them so cold hearted. Columbus started to murder these natives when they were not bringing enough gold. He murdered babies and cut people's hands off. Societies now a days would have a man locked up for such behavior, and though he lived in the past and not present it should not make such behavior forgivable especially celebration worthy.

America is built on a strong foundation. We pride ourselves in being the land of the free, knowing this can we really celebrate the day where Columbus enslaved and murdered countless people? We should celebrate the day the Natives started building on our land or the day the Vikings came and were the first to really "discover" America. It seems as though that perhaps our nation would like to socialize ourselves with the richer, more famous people, because celebrating the natives and their contribution is so outrageous...

Taking these facts into consideration the question "is Columbus hero or villain" should not be a question, in fact should not bothered to be asked. It should be a known fact that Columbus is a villain therefore he should not be celebrated throughout our nation.
