Summary:   A comparison of the movement style and motivations of Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham and George Balanchine in the field of modern dance.


"The beginning of modern dance was primarily from people of the 19th century European ballet, which was said to have begun in the 16th century." The "ballet d'action" was started around the early 18th century, it was a process in which ballet became more expressive and so did the ballet dancers. This was the turning point of ballet and the end of the classical ballet period. The Americans saw ballet as a very foreign and exotic kind of dance and saw it as something that only a foreigner would do. The European dancers who had moved to America started to form schools and held classes in their own homes to spread this dance style. in about the 19th century people started getting bored with the European ballet so they decided to make a different style in.....
