Summary: A history of the worldwide Great Despression in Austrlia.
The Great Depression hit the whole world and it was a time when unemployment was high and governments world wide were squeezing every cent. Australia got hit by the Great Depression as hard as any other country in the world. Although the Great Depression lasted for only three years from 1929 to 1932, when it reached its peak in mid-1932 thirty-two percent of Australians was unemployed. This time in history was one of extreme social depression, fathers in those times were the sole providers and when they went of out work their whole family had to find a way to survive.

The Great Depression must have gotten it's name from the sharp decrease in social standards and ethics "Grown sons sat in the kitchen day after day, playing cards, studying the horses [betting on horse racing] and trying to scrounge enough for a threepenny bet, or engaged in petty crime...
