Summary: The role of suffering in the Greek tragedy "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles.
Some people suffer a lot to know who they really are.Oedipus has to suffer a lot. He had children with his mother, killed his own father and didn't care about the prophecy. Sophocles does suggest that suffering is necessary to achieve self knowledge. As you can see Oedipus should of stayed in Corinth. There's another thing, if no one had ever told Oedipus about the oracle, he would of still done it no matter what.

In every day life people suffer.They may suffer of drug abuse, domestic violence, and other kinds of abuses. If you see closely Oedipus had no idea about the oracle until he found out.
