The Pendulum

Summary: The relationships between the frequency and the mass, amplitude and the length of the pendulum.
A simple pendulum is a body suspended from a fixed support so that it swings freely back and forth under the influence of gravity. It is commonly used to regulate various devices, especially clocks. The swinging of a pendulum back and forth within the clock provides a repetitive motion also called periodic motion. It is also a useful device for measuring time. Without a means of accurately measuring time, navigation on the open seas would not be possible. Galileo came up with the idea for a pendulum clock shortly before his death. The first pendulum clocks were made by Christian Huygens and Robert Hooke. They applied Galileo's concept of a pendulum swinging with a precise period of one second to keep track of time.
